Cape and Cowl's New Comic Book Day Reviews March 10th, 2020!

Every week we go home on Tuesday night and read a bunch of comics to be ready for New Comic Book Day. Sometimes we write up little blurbs about them to put out in the shop so people know what’s what. In case you can’t make it in or just want to have a game plan before you visit, check out this week’s reviews!

DECORUM #1

Jonathan Hickman (Mr. Dawn of X himself) and the incredible Mike Huddlestonhave built us a complex universe filled with world conquering empires, weaponized plagues, and crippling financial burdens… So a crazy sci-fi story that hits pretty close to home. In the middle of all this we have a courier  who is in completely over her head as her path unexpectedly crosses that of the universe’s deadliest and most well mannered assassin. X-Men fans (and everyone else) get in on this!

STAR WARS: BOUNTY HUNTERS #1

Bounty Hunters Boba Fett, Bossk, and Valance were working a job together a bunch of years ago and it all went to poop when Valance’s mentor, Nakano Lash, betrayed them and killed the bounty. Years later, Lash has suddenly resurfaced and for the first time probably ever Boba Fett and company have their hands raised to volunteer to do a job for free!

MARVELS SNAPSHOTS: SUB-MARINER #1

The first in a series of specials highlighting important characters throughout the 80+ years of Marvel comics. Each story will be told through the unique view of an ordinary person, much like the original Marvels series (you should totally read that if you haven’t yet). First up, Namor the Sub-Mariner and his PTSD from World War II go under the lense of reporter Betty Dean! We’ve never seen Namor like this and it’s super interesting!

THE MAN WHO F#&%ED UP TIME #2

Sean works in a lab working on a time machine. That’s rad! Sean stole it so he could go back in time and right some wrongs. That’s dumb! He f#&%ed things up big time. There were samurai cops and dinosaurs and everyone was trying to look like Abe Lincoln. So he went back in time again because he’s dumb and ruined everything again. And now we don’t even have dinosaurs! Jerk.

THOR #4

What is the Black Winter? We don’t know, but it has Galactus and Thor both terrified and that sure scares the crap out of us! Thor is so scared he’s become the new Herald of Galactus and is helping the big guy eat planets! He’s so scared he’s fighting his BFF, Beta Ray Bill! He’s so scared he’s throwing stuff at Lady Sif! You think Thor being so scared could possibly lead to someone else becoming worthy? Nah! ...But maybe?

STAR WARS: DARTH VADER #2

Waaaait a second. Queen Amidala is totally dead. Right?! Our Queen was easily one of the best part of those prequels and we’re pretty sure she doesn’t make it to the end… So what’s going on here?! This story takes place right after Empire and Vader is hungry to bring his son, Luke, into the family business. Maybe Mommy can help?
